HuMp DaY Haiku - Stand out

Scary as it feels
just hold firm to your beliefs!
Stand out in the crowd.

Resist societal pressure to conform. Be true to yourself even if it means being the only red flower among a field of orange. You can do it! Stand out in the crowd!

I have found that creating a haiku (non rhyming poem with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables per line) feeds my soul. I especially like creating them to go with my photos and art.

Pansies!

These little pansies have been blooming in this old bucket all winter long. Their cute little faces are still cheerfully decorating the back deck.

Happy Sunday!

It's Spring, it's Spring!

Yay, it's officially Spring! The weather hasn't quite figured it out, but I know and that makes the cold rainy weather almost bearable.

Thinking Spring flowers... here's a little piece I've mostly finished using the gesso and watercolor technique from Carla Sonheim's Flower Crazy class (link in sidebar).
Yellow crocus.

Have I mentioned I LOVE this class? It takes me awhile to get anything completed (my excuse is that the gesso takes a while to dry, and so I get distracted with some other project. *laugh*). However I AM slowly completing the projects, and having great fun with the techniques.

Here is the closer-to-done-WIP that I shared last week in it's white out stage.
Abstract Roses

I have shading to finish, and finalizing the leaves, although I'm not sure quite WHAT I'm going to do with the leaves quite yet. And then other fixing of odd little bits. If I'm lucky, I'll get it done tomorrow. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

HuMp DaY Haiku - Birdbath humor

Tomorrow it's Spring!
Frozen birdbath rubber ducks
hope it warms up soon!

I couldn't resist getting a shot of the rubber duckies in the birdbath this morning, frozen in place. Brrrrrr! The funny part is the real birds don't seem to mind their bright yellow plastic counterparts sitting in their bird bath. My husband put them out there one day while I was at work, and it did get a laugh from me when I got home. It makes me smile every time I look out in the yard.

But look, duckies! There is hope! Grape hyacinths are a sign of spring. I'm sure it will warm up soon!

Flowers!

I'm delighted to be taking Carla Sonheim's FLOWER CRAZY online class. We're in our second week, and have played with some fun techniques... this week is gesso and watercolor.
Here are a couple I have in progress...
Step One
Step Two
Step 3... shading still to come!

We're now in the middle of a "white out" painting...
White out - a few layers in...

More on this soon! We get our lessons in increments, and I'm excited to see what happens with this one.

HuMP DaY Haiku - Garden Shoes

Artsy Garden Shoes!
How fun to have this foot wear
adorn your garden path!

This photo captures most of this verdant little garden, one of the container/miniature gardens a the Northwest Flower and Garden Show this year. I love the whole look, the moss, the violets, the ferns and especially the shoes! I'll have to look at the thrift stores for cool old shoes to art up and add to the garden.

I have found that creating a haiku (non rhyming poem with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables per line) feeds my soul. I especially like creating them to go with my photos and art.

The love of old books...

Hitty, Her First Hundred Years
I found this cool old book at an estate sale a few months ago and fell in love! This is the memoir of an antique carved (of well-seasoned mountain-ash) wooden doll who travels the world over the course of a century, having many exciting adventures.  "...what is a mere hundred years to well-seasoned mountain-ash wood?"

In my recent cleaning and re-organizing, I finally decided to let her go. It's such an adorable book, however I only have so much shelf space. (even after adding another bookcase!) My hope is that another old book lover will discover Hitty, and decide she needs to come to live at their house. :)

Hitty is now available in my Etsy shop.

HuMp DaY Haiku - Art Walk

 First Friday Art Walk
Artists displaying their art
One of them my son!
We had a wonderful time at Jason's art walk this past Friday. He was so good at showing us the art he'd worked so hard to create these pieces. We are very proud of him!

In all the pictures I took, I didn't get a good one of Jason with his art. O.o This one was taken back at his apartment, and will have to do. *sigh*

P.S...... I just realized that my scheduler did not work, this was supposed to post late on March 5, rather than March 4th. Ack! Working without sufficient time off apparently is not good for this brain. LOL!

Flower Crazy

I just sold a couple of items from my Etsy store, which gave me enough to take this Flower Crazy online class with Carla Sonheim.

I'm so excited! I love her work, and am really looking forward to the challenge! Class starts tomorrow! Yay!
