Anticipation

Promise of summer
unfolding slowly to show
its radiant glory.

I'd love to say this sunflower blossom is from my garden...  however I'll 'fess up that it's from a recent visit to the nursery where my husband works.  I do have sunflowers in the garden, but they are not this close to blooming. But soon! Especially if this luscious warm weather hangs around.

Sharing today with Rebecca and the wonderful haiku artists at Haiku My Heart

oh helen,
you have me with this golden nod to summer!
there is something about the stature of sunflowers...these sentinels of languid long days content to follow the sun with their cheery faces!

Altho I always feed the birds (and chipmunks and squirrels), this is the first summer their messiness at the feeder paid off in brilliant sunflowers!

What a perfect pair of photos showing both stages of the beauty you capture so well in your haiku!

I apologize if you get two comments but i think the first one didn't work... I love the photos and flowers and think you are lucky your husband has such a pretty place to work!
And to answer your question.... I made the faerie ring but i am afraid my son ruined it beore the faeries could enjoy it!

The late sunflowers are the best. I watched some sunflower maidens late last fall, standing up to frost after frost, until they finally bowed their battered heads to the inevitable. But even in death they were still lovely.

What would the world be without sunflowers?

I'll have to give the haiku some thinking. I think I would like it, too. Love your sunflower. We didn't plant them this year...not much sun in Holland...rain, rain, rain. xo Jenny

There is nothing like a sunflower to symbolize summer and yours is perfect! Have a lovely weekend. x

There's nothing like a sunflower to make it feel like summer is really here!
